Unions Aren't Free and Dues Aren't Cheap

NYSNA might say their dues only cost a small percentage of your income every month, but over time, that can really add up.

According to NYSNA’s most recent financial report, full-time represented employees pay 1.6% of their average base salary.1 As an RN working in Queens2, you could be paying up to $1,827 a year in dues.3 Over the life of a three-year contract, you could be on the hook for over $5,400!

Instead of paying $1,827 a year for a group that can’t guarantee you any significant changes, you might rather spend your money on:

  • 24 trips to the grocery store, spending $75
  • 15 months of phone bill payments4
  • 261 rides on the LIRR5
  • 41 tanks of gas for your car, at $3.16/gallon6

Where does YOUR money go after the union collects?

Last year, NYSNA collected nearly $65 MILLION DOLLARS in dues. Less than 30% of that was spent on representing its members – RNs like you.
Instead of spending money on its members, NYSNA spent:

  • $22 million on paying salaries to official union employees
  • $12 million on general union overhead expenses
  • $2.4 million on political activities and lobbying
  • Nearly half a million on “contributions, gifts and grants”

Wouldn’t you rather choose how you want to spend your money? Before you foot the union’s bill with your hard-earned money, check their receipts.
